Resurgent Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

His retrieving approach and recurring reactions on court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

Moutet saved 4 initial break points in a close final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
